Description

Battle of Britain over Skegness, 21 August 1940
Sqn Ldr James Ellis McComb OC 611 Sqn (RAF Digby) pulls his bullet riddled Spitfire clear of the Dornier DO 17 of KG2, he has just engaged and shot down in a combat fought in the skies over Lincolnshire, near Skegness on the afternoon of 21st of August 1940.

For his gallant action and leadership of Yellow section 611 Sqn this day, he was awarded the DFC. His Spitfire however was written off, never to fly again.
